Weight tracking with PCOS, without a diet plan

In Food & Fit, weight is an optional signal you turn on yourself. You can log or import one weight a day, set your own weight reference, and after ten weekly pairs see an association between weekly protein or fiber and week-to-week weight change. There is no weight-loss plan, rate or date.

Weight is one signal among several

Weight often comes up in PCOS care, and many weight apps treat it as a daily score to beat. In Food & Fit, weight is one signal you may want to see beside what you eat and how your days feel.

The 2023 PCOS guideline asks clinicians to consider eating disorders and disordered eating in PCOS regardless of weight, and it recognises the harm that weight stigma can do [1]. That is why weight in Food & Fit is off until you choose it, and why it never becomes a target.

How weight tracking works

Turn it on when you want it

Go to More › Personal details and turn on Track weight. Turn it off at any time and weight disappears from every screen, while the entries you logged stay on your iPhone for when you turn it back on.

One weight a day

Log a weight for the day by hand, or import up to 90 days of daily weights from Apple Health. When both exist for a day, your own entry wins. Weight uses the unit system in Personal details.

A trend, never a goal

The weight card on Patterns shows your latest weight and a plain trend. No colour marks a rise or a fall. If you want a line to compare with, set a weight reference of your own; Food & Fit never suggests one.

Weekly weight patterns

Day-to-day weight moves for many reasons, so Food & Fit looks at weeks. A week counts when it has at least three days with meals and at least one weight. For each pair of back-to-back counted weeks, it compares that week’s average daily protein or fiber with the change in average weight from the week before.

Nothing appears until you have at least ten weekly pairs, and the result must pass a strict test both with and without your latest two pairs. A shown pattern reads like this:

In weeks with more fiber, your week-to-week weight change tended to be lower.

Its page shows every week as a dot, how often weight change was below the middle in your higher and lower weeks, and the other explanations: water, cycle changes and salt. It is an association in your own records, never a cause, and it never becomes a two-week test. Read the full rule.

What Food & Fit leaves out on purpose

Food & Fit has no calorie budget, weight-loss rate or target date. It never tests calories against weight, because that would read as a diet plan. If you want a calorie reference, you can enter one yourself in Daily references. The app never calculates it.

Weight also stays out of widgets, notifications and shared pattern images, so it is not on your Lock Screen or in a picture you send.

Weight in your appointment summary

With Premium, Appointment prep can include how many weights you logged in the period, with the first and the latest, and any weekly weight pattern that is shown. It includes weight only while Track weight is on.

Common questions

Does onboarding ask for my weight?

Yes, once, to suggest a protein reference of 0.83 g per kg of body weight. That is separate from Track weight, which stays off until you turn it on.

Will Food & Fit tell me how to lose weight?

No. It shows your own records and qualified associations in them. For weight goals or treatment, speak with a clinician.

Where is my weight stored?

On your iPhone. Weight never leaves the device.
